A moment of compassion

So, on my way to work, I went to a bus stop to wait for a bus. At the stop I notice 3 people, 2 women and a man. I see the man hand one woman a thermos, then go into the building behind the bus stop. The woman tells the 2nd woman that the thermos has water, that she needs to drink it, and helps her to do so. The 1st woman talks very gently and kindly to the 2nd, who at one point lets out a sob. The 1st woman then says the 2nd needs to go to some place over on 12th Ave., takes her arm and leads her in that direction.

From their demeanor and the snippets of conversation I heard, I deduced that these women did not know each other. That the 1st woman sensed that the 2nd was having a crisis point, and instead of just ignoring her, stopped to help out her fellow human being.

It choked me up.

It's times like these that I feel a special warmth for humanity. That all the bad stuff is not all there is. That we can be saved from our own self-destruction. A simple moment of kindness can truly save a life.
